2016 has been a tough year for iconic recording artists. Prince, David Bowie, Bernie Worrell, and Ben E. King all died this year, but I don’t think I was as shocked by any of those deaths as I was when I heard that Phife Dawg, the 5 ft. assassin, had gone on to that World Tour in the sky.
While hardly a consolation, ATCQ fans around the world greeted the news of Tribe’s surprise upcoming album, We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service with a mix of adulation and disbelief. In recent weeks, more and more information has been trickling down from the Tribe camp, including talk of a features roster that is nothing short of mind-blowing. Andre 3000, and Kendrick Lamar are just a couple of the rap luminaries slated to appear, and if the prospect of King Kendrick flowing over butter Tribe beats courtesy of Ali Shaheed Muhammad don’t whet your appetite, nothing will.
The album will drop on November 11, but in the meantime, you can check out the just-released album art, and the J. Dilla produced tribute to Phife, “Nutshell”, below.
